Microstructure and macrostructure provide qualitative judgement of material characteristic based on visual observation. Usually the techniques are used to complement quantitative data from other tests such as hardness test or tensile test. For example, observing the shape and the size of the grain can provide information about the hardness level and the treatment process of the observed material.
